the farmhouse

based on true events

The book is based on true events put together into the book although they were selected from various occurring times and people.

Hurricane Andrew, the suicide by a neighbor leaving her children with her parents, Alaska contractors coming to Florida to Rip off people from hurricane damage, (bar scene not real), hogs ripping up runway a common problem, banner tower crash based on history, (some of my flight students were banner towers), acres of Bird of Paradise flower business very real with imports forced closure due to cheap price, move to Jupiter real, along with surrounding land marks like S.S. Pennock Company, one of my largest customers, now out of business turned into a Good Year store. Kid falling in the well actually happened down the street from our Bird of Paradise farm. What started the book was when I walked into an old abandoned farmhouse, surrounded by weeds, to find, in all of the decay and destruction, a simple note, printed in faded red crayon on a piece of old cardboard that simple said “Keep us together”
